THC-B 101: What is it and what does it do?

Today we breakdown THC-B which is a homologue of Delta 9 THC that is found in the buds of the hemp plant. It produces a natural and powerful high but it is largely unknown to consumers. Learn more below.

An epic psychoactive high

No-one had heard of THC-B until 2019 and it hasn’t taken long for it to be established as one of the most in-demand cannabinoids found in hemp. Of course, its main attraction is its epic psychoactive high, but in fact, researchers have discovered other properties of the cannabinoid as well which can be extremely helpful to how we feel.

Because THC-B is so new, and because its high is so potentially powerful, I want to share everything that you should know about the hemp derivative before you consider working it into your cannabinoid rotation.

What is THC-B?

THC-B is a homologue of Delta 9 THC, tetrahydrocannabutol (THC-B) is a minor cannabinoid found in the buds of the hemp plant. It was discovered in 2019 by the same cannabis researchers who discovered THC-P and has quickly gained itself a name in the minor cannabinoid market due to the epic high it produces.

Given the fact that we’ve only known of its existence for a little less than 3 years, it’s not surprising that there’s a lack of extensive clinical data to tell us about what it’s capable of. Testing and analyzing cannabinoids takes time, so it may be a while before we have the full picture of what THC-B can do, but we do know a good deal so far.

THC-B is distinctive from delta 9 THC (and Delta 8 and Delta 10 THC) thanks to its butyl side chain, rather than the Delta THC’s pentyl side chain. However, like Delta 9 THC, this cannabinoid works with both CB1 receptors in the brain and CB2 receptors in the nervous system, as well as other systems of the body, showing us that like Delta 9, its effects are likely to be very multifaceted.

THC-B is also known to bind to CB1 receptors much more strongly than Delta 9, which means that its psychoactive effects are likely to be much more potent.

THC-B’s high: What to expect

THC-B’s high is reported as being stronger than delta 9’s, but how much stronger, we don’t exactly know. It’s safe to say that the high is somewhere between that of delta 9 and THC-P, with the latter being around 10 times as psychoactive as delta 9 (currently considered to be the most intoxicating cannabinoid in cannabis).

Unsurprisingly, people describe feelings of intense euphoria with THC-B, as well as a calmer mood that helps them rid the mind of negative thoughts. Some people find that THC-B is also supremely relaxing, which is why many prefer to enjoy it in the evening, when they’re ready to wind down and let go of the stresses of the day.

What else can THC-B do?

For the time-being, we have very limited information about the properties of THC-B, but the good news is that the scientists who did discover it spent some time looking into its capabilities. That means that there are some properties that have already been shown to act as potential benefits.

  • Analgesic properties: THC-B has been found to offer potential analgesic properties, changing the way in which the nervous system communicates pain signals to the brain, for a greater pain tolerance.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties: THC-B was also found to have anti-inflammatory potential, which can be great for those dealing with physical discomfort and other conditions or problems related to inflammation.
  • Sleep effects: Researchers also found that THC-B improved sleep by allowing for deeper sleep, a shorter sleep onset time and a more consistent circadian rhythm.

THC-B is a legal cannabinoid, as it complies with the federal 2018 Farm Bill which allows all hemp derivatives to be sold legally as long as they contain no more than 0.3% Delta 9 THC. This means that according to federal law, THC-B is a fully legal hemp derivative.

With state laws, however, things aren’t as simple. Although no state has banned THC-B explicitly, the cannabinoid seems to fall under a blanket ban enacted by several states against psychoactive hemp derivatives.

The states in which THC-B is currently illegal are:

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • Hawaii (Inhalable and Oral Products)
  • Idaho
  • Iowa
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • New York
  • North Dakota
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Washington

What else should I know about THC-B?

As THC-B is more intoxicating than Delta 9 THC, and generally regarded as capable of producing a very powerful high, it’s important to introduce yourself to it slowly. Follow the directions on the product’s label to make sure you’re taking the right amount as a beginner, to avoid getting uncomfortably high.

Another thing to always remember is that the brand you buy from matters a tremendous deal. Only seek out THC-B from a trusted, highly reputable hemp company, and make sure that the product has undergone thorough third-party testing.

THC-B products

THC-B is fast becoming a hit with fans of psychoactive cannabinoids, and it’s easy to see why. The fact that it may offer other potential benefits, may make it even more appealing and worthwhile to many of us.

But as mentioned, the key is choosing your brand wisely. I f you’re looking for a reputable supplier of THC-B products, then I recommend Binoid’s THC-B Products.
